Why should orchard crops be fed at the end of active vegetation?
In intensive orchards it is necessary to feed trees and bushes with critical elements to increase their frost resistance, strengthen their immunity and ensure successful bud formation for the next year.
The most important elements in this period are phosphorus, potassium, boron and zinc
- Potassium (K) is the key element for winter. It helps plant cells retain moisture, increases the density of the cell sap and promotes the accumulation of sugars in the cells, which lowers the freezing point and strengthens the bark.
- Phosphorus (P) regulates metabolic processes, stimulates the growth and strengthening of the root system and helps the tree to form fruit buds for the next spring.
- Boron (B) strengthens plant cell walls, improves metabolism and increases overall resistance to diseases and low temperatures.
- Zinc (Zn) increases heat and frost resistance and regulates protein synthesis during the dormant period.
Application timing
The end of September to October (2–3 weeks before stable frosts). Fertilizers should be applied when about 70% of the leaves are still green and metabolic exchange between the leaf apparatus and the root system is still taking place.
Recommended fertilizer composition
ECOLINE Phosphite (K) 2.0–3.0 l/ha with the addition of ECOLINE Boron (Organic) 1.0 l/ha and ECOLINE Zinc (Chelate) 1.5 l/ha.
- The advantage of phosphite fertilizers is fast uptake and inclusion in metabolic processes even at low temperatures, unlike phosphate. Phosphite has a significant fungicidal effect. The complex with readily available potassium is absorbed within 2–3 hours of active vegetation.
- ECOLINE Boron (Organic), unlike boric acid, does not require additional dissolving in warm water and is 100% absorbed by the plant.
- ECOLINE Zinc (Chelate) contains zinc in a 100% chelated form, which gives excellent tank-mix compatibility and "instant" uptake by the plant.
- The advantage of this fertilizer complex is that disease and pest control sprays can be applied together with it.
